I want to traverse new lands, climb mighty mountains and taste the salty sea breeze on an oceanside paradise.
I want to at least see some really cool stuff. I’ll make my mind up as I go.

My mother has grabbed a great deal on a Black Friday discount ticket from Canada to Japan next March and I couldn’t be more thrilled. It’s been about 8 years since she came to Japan and a lot has changed since then. Many new facilities and entertainment places have opened or expanded, so I feel it’s very important to explore these places and give my mom a lot of new experiences around the country.

One of the first things at the top of her list is to visit the Harry Potter Warner Brother’s Studio Tour. I’ve been there twice now, and while I don’t consider myself to be an expert Potterhead (Harry Potter fan), I am quite well-versed in the Harry Potter world and was very impressed with my visit. I went to the UK last year, and while you’d expect that to be the mothership of all Potter paraphernalia, I’d say the Warner brother studio tour in Tokyo is even more packed with Potter pandemonium and it will magically make your money disappear!

The next place we want to explore is near Mt Fuji during mid-April. My mother really has a love for pink, so she really wants to see the Fuiji-sakura Festival at the bottom of Mt. Fuji and look at the gorgeous fields of flowers and other amazing creations that will be displayed at the park.

Eventually, we plan to also explore Legoland in Nagoya. My mother is surprisingly a big fan of Lego and all the different possible combos you can create with its never-ending brick pieces. Legoland seems like it’s exactly what she’ll love. Meanwhile I’d like to check out the Ghibli amusement park located not far from Nagoya. I’ve been a big Ghibli fan since I was a kid, starting with films like Totoro and Castle in the Sky so it would be a dream come true for me to see those stories brought to life at that theme park.

Those are only some of the places we plan to explore next year. I think traveling around Japan is very easy, comfortable and satisfying. Visitors who come to Japan will not leave disappointed and will be happy to have a good time as long as they do their research and be flexible with whatever comes their way.

Kailey

Vocabulary
traverse (verb) – to travel across or through
well-versed (adjective) – highly experienced, practiced, or skilled; very knowledgeable; learned
paraphernalia (noun) – miscellaneous articles, especially the equipment needed for a particular activity
pandemonium (noun) – wild and noisy activity, disorder or confusion because people are excited or frightened about something; uproar

As the new year approaches, it’s time to start thinking about our goals for the new year and how we are planning to achi…

[4

post-43046","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-essays
