{"id":21126,"date":"2020-08-22T14:33:43","date_gmt":"2020-08-22T05:33:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.oneup.jp\/?post_type=how_to_learn&#038;p=21126"},"modified":"2020-11-12T16:13:20","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T07:13:20","slug":"resolution-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oneup.jp\/media\/essays\/resolution-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Resolution"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As with most people who make New Year\u2019s resolutions, I am usually horrible about keeping my word.<\/p>\n<p>I used to make resolutions like most do: get in shape, stop smoking or drinking, go to the gym, eat healthier, and so on. I have found that I often <u>procrastinate<\/u> until just before the end of the year before I admit defeat. I\u2019m not exactly failing in the \u201cwant to do it department\u201d, but rather I\u2019m failing in the planning department. <\/p>\n<p>Usually the New Year\u2019s resolution goes like this: \u201cI\u2019m going to ________ this year.\u201d Rather than set a deadline or an absolute schedule that would allow me to achieve these desires, I would just give a very weak and \/ or <u>feeble<\/u> excuse for a resolution. <\/p>\n<p>For the longest time I would shame myself to no end for failing. Of course shaming oneself isn\u2019t productive at all. Then about 12 years ago I finally made a resolution that, I\u2019m proud to say, I have not broken since I made it in 2006. In <u>\u201906<\/u>, my resolution went as follows: \u201cThis year\u2019s resolution is to never make another New Year\u2019s resolution!\u201d This is a resolution that I plan on taking to my grave. <\/p>\n<p>Now when I decide to make a change to, hopefully, improve my life, I do it when I am ACTUALLY ready to make the change, not just because it is a new year.<\/p>\n<p>Kevin<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><\/br><br \/>\n<b>Vocabulary<\/b><\/p>\n<p>procrastinate (v) - to delay doing something until a later time because you do not want to do, you\u2019re lazy, etc.<br \/>\nfeeble (adj.) - lacking in force, strength, effectiveness, etc.<br \/>\n\u201906 (n) - a short way to say the year 2006, pronounced \u201coh six\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As with most people who make New Year\u2019s resolutions, I am usually horrible about keeping my word.
