The movie I am most looking forward to in 2022 is the film Spencer. This movie stars Kristen Stewart and Timothy Spall. It is directed by Pablo Larraín, who also directed the Academy Award-nominated films No and Jackie.
The movie is about Diana Spencer, who the world knows better as Diana, Princess of Wales. It is a biopic about Diana`s battle with the royal family and the paparazzi as she tries to adapt to life after her marriage (and soon-after divorce) to Queen Elizabeth’s son, Prince Charles. What should have been a happily-ever-after fairytale for the couple ended in a messy and very public divorce for them. Even though Diana Spencer had a rough marriage, the movie trailer seems to depict her as a strong, resilient heroine, who goes on to do a great amount of charity work and stands up for issues that affect society as well as raise her two young sons William and Harry to become the future princes.
The film is set during a particularly crucial time in Diana’s life during Christmas Eve. Her marriage is on the rocks, and she is focusing on getting through the three-day Christmas celebrations as smoothly and as quickly as possible. Though she has been invited to the festivities, it is clear to her that the Royal Family is subtly trying to send signals to her that she is no longer an integral part of the family.
As the hours tick on, she seems to struggle with her mental sanity and fights to remain calm and coherent for the cameras.
The film looks as though it will explore Diana`s fragile mental state as she tries to take care of her family, maintain her image and survive the cold shoulders from the royal family.
The reason I am really looking forward to this movie is because I think it has a lot of potential to explore the Princess of Wale’s life that doesn’t over glamorize her wedding or depict her life as a misunderstood tragedy. When I watch the trailer for this movie, it quickly sets up a distinct type of atmosphere. The glorious Buckingham Palace has never looked so grim or so gloomy. The sky is cloudy, and the fields are bare. Though Kristen’s Stewart costumes look appropriate and classy, the trailer shows a stark contrast in her mental state, and she seems to be descending into her own depression and self- destructive spiral due to her alienation from the family that had once embraced her. I would like to know more about the world of the British royal family, as well as the struggles that each family member has gone through in order to grow and represent their country. I hope the movie will be able to provide me with new insight into this mysterious, traditional world.
The movie has already been released in several other countries around the world, but there is no current release date for Japan. I am waiting in anticipation for the release and I hope you will be too.
